Resident Evil Village Crafting System Hinted At By Capcom

Enemies in Resident Evil Village drop not only money but also materials for a crafting system, according to comedian Eiko Kano who exclusively played the game at TGS 2020.

Resident Evil Village, coming in 2021 to PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, actually has a crafting mechanic. We learned this at the Capcom TGS 2020 stream, during the Resident Evil Village Guest Talk on September 27. Where comedian and singer Eiko Kano got to be the first person to play Biohazard Village. Sadly, we didn’t get to see the gameplay screen for ourselves, and only heard the game’s English dubbing and sounds, along with Eiko Kano’s impressions.

In particular, Eiko Kano mentioned that when defeated, enemies in Resident Evil Village drop not only money like in RE4, but also materials, that can seemingly be used in a crafting mechanic. (Thanks to Game Watch for pointing it out). Kano was playing the very beginning of the game, and stated you suddenly get attacked by a monster. Kano got multiple game overs, and mentioned REVIII can feel pretty hard from the start, with many monsters attacking at the same time. However, while he’s a Resident Evil specialist and regularly streams horror games on the Eiko Go YouTube channel, Eiko Kano himself said he’s “not good at games at all”. So you shouldn’t give too much credit to that detail regarding difficulty.

There also seem to be enemies that move in different ways than all monsters in Resident Evil VII. Kano also mentioned it’s peculiar how the game is set in winter, with snow in the village, and yet some enemies are naked. Moreover, it looks like protagonist Ethan Winters has few weapons or ammunition at disposal and can instead use his surroundings. Like pushing down furniture on enemies to attack or block them. Comedian Yoshiyuki Hirai, who was also on stream and watched the Resident Evil Village gameplay, jokingly said “it’s basically Home Alone”.

If you’d like to watch Eiko Kano playing Resident Evil Village, not the game itself, it’s starting the 2:06:02 timestamp for around 13 minutes:

Still at TGS 2020, Producer Tsuyoshi Kanda heavily hinted Resident Evil Village might launch on PS4 and Xbox One as well. Capcom also officially announced Netflix project Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. On a slightly related note, Sega also officially confirmed the Yakuza movie.
