Puppies stolen from car in Detroit; police say it’s warning about where to sell stuff

Two cuddly Olde English Bulldogge puppies were snatched Friday evening from a car on Detroit’s west side, police said, adding that the incident, which was widely reported by TV news, is a cautionary lesson to people meeting up to sell anything.

Two sellers of the five-week-old puppies went to the McDonald’s parking lot in the 13500 block of Linwood to show the dogs to a prospective buyer, but instead the dogs were stolen.

The puppies — a male with a tan and white coat, and a female with a tan coat and a white stripe — were nabbed at about 8:10 p.m. out the back of the sellers’ vehicle by a man who said he wanted to show the dogs to his girlfriend.

The sellers said no, but the man still drove off with the pups in a silver Chrysler Town & Country minivan, according to the police report.

Police said the theft is a reminder that it is best to arrange sales or exchanges of items at a police station where there are plenty of law enforcement officers, in case anything goes wrong, and accessible surveillance video.
