COLONIE — An Albany man was charged Monday for driving his car into a Central Avenue car dealership last week.

Richard Reed, 53, allegedly had a confrontation with the sales staff at DePaula Auto Group, 1101 Central Ave., last Thursday morning about a car he purchased in 2019, Colonie police said in a press release. After telling the staff he was leaving, Reed revved his car in the parking lot before deliberately driving his car in the building, police said.

One salesperson dove out of the way, but his leg was pinned by Reed’s car, causing injuries to his lower leg.

Colonie police took Reed into custody at his home in Albany Monday. He was then taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital for a mental health evaluation. He is being charged with second-degree assault, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment, all felonies, and is set to be arraigned in Colonie Wednesday.
